At Spain SEO we often get asked the question – What is Optimization? How will it help my business? Is it really worth it or is it just a load of old hype?

Good questions, every one of them. So let’s get right down to it.

You can pay to have a website designed and pay a fortune to make it look really great. You will be really proud of it and want the whole world to see it. The question is, who is going to see it and how will they find it?  Well, you might get some business from website visitors who have found your website address from your business card and you may also get some website visitors from the different types of advertising campaigns that you put in place.

The bottom line is, there is always a cost involved to promote your business and normally with conventional advertising, both online and offline, it doesn’t come cheap. It can be very effective, but there are also other ways that can achieve the same if not more and for less money. Unlike conventional advertising, these methods do not stop bringing prospective clients, like they do when you stop advertising, they are usually for the longer term.

What methods other than conventional advertising are we talking about?

Basically we are talking about unpaid, continual, organic search engine traffic. What this means, is that when somebody wants a lawyer, they will probably get on the internet and using Google, search for a lawyer in their area.  If you can optimize your website for the search phrase that they use e.g. “Lawyers in the Costa Brava“, then when they search for that phrase in Google, you should be on the first page of the Google’s results. You need to be on the first page of the Google search because people are lazy and don’t generally continue past the first page of a search. This means that there will be a good chance that they will look at your website and if it conveys the right message, they may even contact you.

Optimization, to achieve this, comes in two forms, namely, onpage optimization and offpage. Onpage being the correct codes and keyword search phrases and offpage, being link building, articles, submitting the website URL to directories and so on. Together, onpage and offpage optimization produce the best results to promote your website.

So in essence, Optimization takes care of generating the right traffic to your website to give you the best chance of gaining a new client. Once everything is in place, the traffic will continue to flow into your website.
